Acne has many causes and can be a result from medication or hormonal imbalance. To begin with, a proper diagnosis to identify its cause is necessary. This would include a skin analysis, and may even require blood analysis and ultrasound or x-ray.
Depending on the cause of acne, appropriate treatment will then be necessary. The first step will be to recommend the correct topical skin care, including cleanser, toner and sunblock, which should be non-comedogenic and not too oily, but provide sufficient moisture to the skin. This is important to prevent the skin from over-reacting and producing more sebum.
A suitable treatment depending on the severity of the problem will then be prescribed:
Prescription for an Exfoliator:
Differin or Tretinoin together with a topical antibiotic +/- H2O2 (benzyl peroxide)
