The Soprano Laser hair removal treatment works by safely and gently heating the dermis – the surface layer of the skin – to a temperature that effectively damages the hair follicle and prevents re-growth, yet does not injure the surrounding skin.
This treatment is designed to suit everyone, especially those who haven’t been able to achieve their desired results using conventional light-based hair removal systems such as IPL. Soprano will help you achieve less or no hair on those areas that trouble you.
The Soprano machine works in a very straightforward way: after applying gel to the area to be treated, the applicator is placed in contact with the skin and the laser light (emitting pulses of diode laser energy) is applied as the head of the applicator is moved across the skin. This is the procedure for ‘super’ hair removal. For normal hair removal the laser light is applied in static shots on the treatment area.
The hair follicles are killed by the heat but the hairs remain in the skin and may even become attached to the epidermis. They will fall out after 1 to 4 weeks as the epidermis is renewed. During this period it will seem that the hairs are growing as the epidermis pushes them out.
Facial treatment with Soprano can take as little as 10 minutes, whereas both legs and/or the entire back take between 1½ to 2 hours.
Soprano has been developed for both complete hair removal and long term hair reduction. The treatment works most effectively on dark hair, due to the large concentration of dark melanin that it contains. Melanin enables maximum absorption and conversion of light energy to heat.
Very fair hair has less melanin and therefore less heat is produced – so the rate of permanent destruction of the hair follicles is less efficient. Grey or white hair has almost no melanin and cannot be efficiently treated.
For frequency of treatments, the usual recommendation is a minimum of 4 sessions per zone and to have each session on a monthly interval basis. For those who are slightly more hairy, they may need up to 8 sessions.
The skin of some patients becomes quite red immediately after treatment. However, most patients experience no side effects at all, and reactions usually disappear within hours to a few days.
Patients are advised to apply soothing moisturiser over the skin, post-treatment – and avoid any form of exfoliation. Sunscreen should also be applied over the area when going outdoors.
